Remembering 9/11

On 9/11/2001, I was entering my freshman year at Northeastern. NU was on the trimester system back then so classes hadn't started yet. I was granted early move-in because I was on the cheerleading team and I spent the night before as one of the only people in my dorm.

My cell phone rang at 9 am and it was one of my good friends from high school Laura. She was calling to make sure I was ok. Northeastern is in Boston, and right down the street from the Weston where the hijackers had stayed, so by later in the day, the scene was quite chaotic. I had just woken up and was so confused as to what Laura was talking about. I hadn't been able to get cable installed in my bedroom yet so I went out to the dorm's lobby. There was a huge crowd around the big screen TV and everyone was watching in silence as the events unfolded.

Boston declared that all public transportation was free for the day. As soon as I found out that my cheerleading practice was canceled, I hopped on the commuter rail and went home to be with my faily. Even though I did not know anyone who was affected by the tragedies, it still gave me peace of mind to be close to those I love most.

8 years later, we still remember 9/11.

  2. Thanks Caitlin!

I feel like a celeb just left a comment for me. Yay! :o) Haha.

Maybe a good way to focus my training and gain motivation would be to try something like the 30 day shred. After my race on 10/11, I'll be looking for something new to train for!
